FOLIATE HEART EARRINGS from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC - Stamped "MMA 1993" on back. Finely cast pewter with 24 karat gold plating and stainless steel posts.
Original paperwork included. Text on it reads as follows:
FOLIATE HEART adapted from a roundel
possibly North Spain, ca. 1180-1200
The rhythmic linear design of this heart motif reflects the lively spirit that is characteristic of the late Romanesque style. The design was inspired by the decoration on a late 12th-century roundel of gilt copper with champlevé
enamel. The Museum's adaptation is cast in pewter,
electroplated with 24 karat gold, and antiqued.
